The Joy of Commissions

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

A request was made for a commission piece...a diptych 36x36x2 ( really 36x72).

The client did not want any trees, rocks or bold colour, just a vision.  Not a task a landscape painter could or should do easily.

I had a lot of thinking to do... I was invited to her house to “get a feel” for what she liked! Her home well appointed, traditional, warm and rich. She gave me free hand on my vision for her but she had specific colour choices.

I went on a planned trip to Australia thinking the what, the how and most importantly the why am I doing this? My answer was simple: she believes I can do this for her!

I arrive at her door, covered paintings in hand. I asked her to sit on the couch with her eyes closed as I hung the paintings side by side. I gave her the green light to view the paintings.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she said”Karen, you got me!” The joy this beautiful lady gave me will carry my art journey into the next decade!

Thank you Maria!
