I am mesmerized by patterns, shapes and textures found in nature. Transforming a blank canvas into a landscape steeped in meaning and memory is what I live for as an artist. Before I put brush to canvas, I begin by sketching an outline in pencil and India ink. Then, using loose brush strokes and a limited palette, I give my paintings a contemporary feel. My preferred medium is oil, and I paint with a palette knife or brushes on either canvas or board.
At an early age I found my self enamoured with the work of well known Canadian artist Garnet Hazard. As my interest in art blossomed , I found myself drawn to the work of Tom Thomson and Vincent van Gogh. Presently, I count the work and mentoring of Gordon Harrison and Kim Myers Smith as significant influences in my approach to art.
